Greystone Advises Shamrock Materials in its Sale to Vulcan Materials

SAN DIEGO (March 20, 2017) –  The Greystone Group announced today that it served as exclusive financial advisor to Shamrock Materials, Inc. (“Shamrock”) in its sale to Vulcan Materials Company (NYSE: VMC).  Shamrock, founded in 1954, is one of the largest suppliers of ready mix, aggregate and building materials in the North Bay of San Francisco, California.

“Shamrock has been a pioneer in the construction materials business in the North Bay for over 60 years.   The Company developed an aggregate import business in 2002 to ensure a stable supply of high quality aggregates for its ready mix business.   Gene Ceccotti was a visionary and should be proud of what he created” said Tim Oitzman, President of Greystone.

Shamrock was a regional consolidator in the late 1980s and early 1990s, acquiring Sebastopol Ready-Mix, McPhail Ready-Mix & Building Materials and NORCAL Ready Mix.  In the late 1990s, Shamrock acquired Pioneer Ready Mix in Sonoma County. During that same time, Shamrock acquired Cloverdale Ready-Mix, Cotati Ready Mix and Santa Rosa Building Materials in the North Bay together with Basalt Napa Ready-Mix and Vallejo Ready-Mix in Napa and Solano Counties.  Today, the Company operates an aggregate import facility in Petaluma, California along with a fleet of barges it uses to lighter aggregate from 100,000 ton Panamax-sized dry bulk ships moored in the San Francisco Bay, and transports the material to various distribution facilities throughout the Bay Area including Petaluma.   Shamrock also operates 6 ready mix concrete plants and 2 building materials yards.  Shamrock’s management team is remaining in place to continue to operate and develop the business.

“We started getting inquiries from several well qualified buyers in 2013 with an interest in our brand and market presence along with the fact that we had the largest inland marine barge fleet in the Bay Area.   As a result, we asked Greystone to help us evaluate our situation and they ultimately helped us navigate the entire process including the timing of a potential transaction.   Greystone’s intimate knowledge of the construction materials industry served us well” said Gene Ceccotti, Chairman and CEO of Shamrock Materials, Inc.  “In the end, it became clear that Vulcan would be an excellent cultural fit for our customers and employees and I was very pleased that Vulcan retained nearly all of our employees as well as the business name Shamrock Materials” said Ceccotti.
